130 workers face redundancy

WORKERS at a Hereford factory are facing redundancy after bosses confirmed the plant’s closure.

Around 130 employees at Triplex Components Machining, off Roman Road, were told the bad news in a letter from director Alan Soloman.

It said the reason for closure was “a result of unsustainable trading losses and insufficient work to support all the UK machining plants”.

Triplex, a car component supplier, said there could be jobs at their sister factory in Stratford-upon-Avon, which would now house all production. Mr Soloman urged those interested in re-locating to apply “as soon as possible”.

A 90-day consultation process is now under way, during which Triplex will talk with a works forum on how to reduce the number of redundancies, and determine possible redundancy packages.

Earlier this month, as reported in the Hereford Times, Triplex sent workers a letter detailing changing shift patterns.

The company, formerly Peak Engineering, moved to Hereford in 1986, merging with sister company Aeroparts Engineering.
